We define three dimensions of plausibility: physical accuracy (comparison to measured data), perceptual validity (user studies), and contextual appropriateness (suitability for the intended use case).
Auralization—the process of rendering audible the sound field of a space—is increasingly used in urban planning. This work presents a framework for assessing the plausibility of urban auralizations, addressing the question of how accurately virtual acoustic environments represent real-world conditions.

The framework includes blind listening tests, comparison with physical measurements, and expert evaluation to provide a multi-faceted assessment of auralization quality.
We apply the framework to evaluate several urban auralization case studies, demonstrating its effectiveness in identifying strengths and limitations of different simulation approaches.
